Chatzivaritis Estate
Vagelis Chatzivaritis and Olga Iakovidou used to organize gatherings with friends every year, since the early ‘80s, in Goumenissa, in order to bottle the wine of the year.
The endless conversations and love for wine led to the realization of the idea to create an estate, so this is how Chatzivaritis Estate was brought to life.
At the beginning, they bought pieces of land in Bindabla, Goumenissa, and, in 1994, they planted a 0.50 ha vineyard under the guidance and with the participation of Doros Vassiliadis and his sons, Viktoras and Kostas. The varieties cultivated are the Greek red ones Xinomavro and Nekoska, and also the international ones Sauvignon blanc, Chardonnay, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.
In 2000, a 0.50 ha plot was bought in Vakoufia, close to Fyliria village, which was planted one year later with Xinomavro and Negoska.
The winery of the company was established on this parcel and it operated for the first time in 2007. Moreover, it tested the adaptation of new varieties. Most of cultivation tasks are done manually in order to ensure the high quality of raw material and the safety of the vines.
The Chatzivariti Estate produces seven labels. Three red, which are PDO Goumenissa, Xinomavro-Cabernet Sauvignon and Mosaic, three whites, Assyrtiko, Vaggeli! and Mosaic, and one rose, Chloe.
