Boutari Naousa
Boutari winery is situated in one of the most beautiful regions of Nothern Macedonia, Naousa.
Boutari has played a leading role in the development and evolution of Greek wine both in Greece and abroad.
The Boutari company played a decisive role, not only in preserving the local grape variety, Xinomavro, at a time when viticulture had almost been abandoned, but also in establishing and promoting this variety and the PDO region of Naousa.
The Boutari Company created a group of contracted producers of selected vineyards in the region and took over the management of the group.
This action led to the vineyards’ classification at qualitative levels, which was considered a model for Greek standards.
The red variety Xinomavro offers exceptional red wines, but also wines of different particular types and styles.
The cultivation of the international grape varieties Merlot and Syrah gave a new perspective and led to the creation of single varietal wines as well as to exceptional blends with Xinomavro.
This has proved the huge potential of the Naousa’s vineyard and its ability to further develop and exploited in the future.
The vineyards are located on the sunny south-east slopes of Mount Vermio, and are protected by the cold northern winds. The abundant rainfall and the relatively cool climate play a beneficial role in the development of the vines. The soils are marl, clay loam, calcium-rich and therefore ideal for producing wines with a rich body.
A guided tour in the production area and the Winery’s cellar constitutes a perfect introduction to the history and philosophy of the Boutari Company.
