Domaine Migas
Dimitris Migas is the owner of Migas Domaine and was born in Tyrnavos, a municipality in the Larissa regional unit, of the Thessaly region of Greece, at the foothills of Mount Olympus.
The vineyard he inherited from his family is located on “Paleos Ampelos”, an area near Tyrnavos, and counts 120 acres. It is one of the most contemporary and remarkable Greek wineries.
The name of the area “Paleos Ampelos” (i.e. “Old Vineyard”), where Migas vineyard is located, reveals that is has historically been an area of viniculture. The grape varieties cultivated are the French Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and the Greek Muscat of Tirnavos, Bantiki and Malagouzia. The mild mainland climate and the good ground drainage of the area are greatly responsible for the top quality of the estate’s wines.
Combining tradition with state-of-the-art equipment is one of the winery’s main targets. In order to apply the latest available winemaking technology during vinification, maturation and preservation of the wine, Mr. Migas made an impressive investment and created a model winery, unique in the local area.
The visitors who wish to get familiar with the world of winemaking will have the chance to take a short tour to the vineyard, but also to the areas of the production, bottling and ageing. Furthermore, they will have the opportunity to visit the special wine-tasting room, that overlooks the wine-ageing cellar, and try the exquisite flavours of different varieties.
